Ideal Weight Calculator
Get a healthy weight range for your height.
These formulas don't always agree — that's expected, since each was derived differently. Treat the range as a reference, not a strict target.
How to use it
- 1Choose your sex and unit system.
- 2Enter your height.
- 3Read the ideal weight estimate from each of the four formulas, their average and range, and the healthy-BMI range for comparison.
Example
For a 175 cm tall man, the four formulas range from about 68.7 to 72.0 kg (Miller lowest, Hamwi highest), averaging 70.0 kg — close to, but narrower than, the 56.7–76.3 kg healthy-BMI range for the same height.
How it works
Rather than pick one “correct” formula, this shows four well-known ones side by side — Devine (1974, originally for drug dosing), Robinson (1983), Miller (1983), and Hamwi (1964) — all estimate ideal body weight from height alone, which is exactly why they disagree: none account for build, muscle mass, or frame size. For context, the healthy BMI range (18.5–24.9) for the same height is also shown — it's usually noticeably wider than the four formulas' spread, since BMI defines a broad healthy zone rather than a single target.
