Example
A typical home broadband connection might show something like 150 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload, and 12 ms ping — streaming and browsing mostly depend on download speed, while video calls and cloud backups lean more on upload and ping.
How it works
The test downloads and uploads real data to Cloudflare's network — one of the largest and closest edge networks to most users — and times how long each transfer takes to calculate your throughput in megabits per second. Ping is the round-trip time for a small request, and jitter is the average change in that time between consecutive requests — a measure of how stable your connection is, not just how fast. Each request times out automatically if your connection stalls, and you can cancel a running test at any time.
