Split a bill, tip, and tax evenly across a group

Per person$35.40
Tip total$10.80
Tip per person$5.40
Grand total$70.80

How to use it

  1. 1Enter the bill amount, an optional tax amount, and choose your currency.
  2. 2If you added tax, choose whether the tip is calculated on the bill alone or on the bill plus tax.
  3. 3Pick a tip percentage preset or type a custom one.
  4. 4Enter the number of people splitting the bill, and optionally round shares up.
  5. 5Read the per-person amount, tip total (and tip per person), and grand total.

Example

A $60 bill split between 2 people with an 18% tip: the tip is $60 × 18% = $10.80, the total is $70.80, and each person pays $35.40 — $5.40 of which is their share of the tip. Add a tax amount and the tip can be calculated on the bill alone or on the bill plus tax, matching how your receipt actually breaks it down.

How it works

The tip amount is the tip percentage applied to the bill (or to the bill plus tax, if you choose that basis). Bill, tax, and tip are added together for the grand total, which is then divided evenly by the number of people. With rounding on, each share is rounded up to the nearest cent, which collects a few cents more than the actual bill in exchange for avoiding awkward exact-cent splits.
